Different backgrounds do not have to be the whole story

You may connect easily in some ways and find unexpected differences in others. We explore what each person has learned about relationships, what you share and which differences are affecting your life together.

Make unspoken meanings easier to understand

We can discuss how each partner understands respect, closeness, privacy, conflict and family involvement. Language, migration, religion and experiences of racism can be included when relevant, without assuming culture causes every disagreement.

FAQs

Does cross-cultural mean the same as interracial?

The experiences can overlap, but are not identical. Partners may differ in culture, race, nationality, religion, language or upbringing; we ask what matters in your relationship.

Will one of us be expected to adapt to the other's culture?

No. We explore your needs and options rather than assuming one background should take priority.

Is faith required for this counselling?

No. Faith can be discussed if relevant, but intercultural couples counselling does not require religious beliefs.

Can I attend from Barrie?

Yes. Appointments are virtual by Zoom or phone, from a private space in Barrie or elsewhere in Ontario. For video sessions, partners can join from separate private locations within Ontario.

Do you have a counselling office in Barrie?

No.

Are you culturally sensitive?

Yes, I am. My culturally diverse background helps me appreciate both the differences and shared experiences across cultures. I take time to understand your values, experiences and how culture shapes your relationships, without making assumptions.

How much do sessions cost?

Couples counselling is $200 for 60 minutes. Individual counselling is $175 for 60 minutes. A 15-minute consultation is free. Direct billing may be available for eligible plans; coverage depends on your policy.
